In preparation for the April 8th eclipse event the Town of Fort Erie recently provided an update to Council at its March 4th meeting to answer questions for residents and visitors.

- Date: April 8th 2024
- Time: Starting at 2:04pm with totality starting at 3:18pm, maximum at 3:20pm. Totality ends at 3:22pm and the whole event will be finished at 4:32pm.
What has the TOFE done to prepare for this event
There is expected to be anywhere from 500,000 to 1,000,000 visitors to come to the Niagara Region over the course of the weekend leading up to the main event on Monday, April 8th 2024.
Town staff have been participating in meeting since late 2022 and all of 2024 with Regional Partners, Emergency Personnel, OPP, NRPS, MTO Boarder Services, Niagara Parks and others to make plans to manage any emergencies that might come up over the weekend leading up to the event and the day of.
Emergency Shelter to be located at the Leisureplex if needed. This will be a place where it people get separated can find each other.
Staff, have made plans to advertise places that would be appropriate to watch the event and where road closures will be due to safety reasons. Town of Fort Erie staff have developed a traffic Management plan to deal with the heavy traffic expected on this day.
Residents have been asked to keep their travel to minimum as there could be the potential for many people on the streets and out of town visitors.
